Operations

Connect supplier receiving, packaging, delivery and returns decisions with clear records, version control and responsibility for exceptions.

Review receiving, packing and parcel measurements

Choose one delivery or packing change and follow the relevant handoffs: what arrived, which packing version applies and what the sealed parcel measures. These review points can be used separately or together, according to the case.

  1. Reading 1

    Distinguish receipt from verified stock

Read how one delivery reference connects expected and actual product quantities, counting units and carton handoff records. Examine the counting scope and discrepancies separately from the decision to hold or release affected stock.

  2. Reading 2

Trace the packaging version and approval scope

Follow the specification, material and design-file versions for an order or SKU. Examine what a sample decision covers, who authorizes bulk production and how the changeover treats old stock and unresolved exceptions.

  3. Reading 3

    Understand measurements and billing rules

Read why measurements must describe the closed, shipment-ready parcel. Compare the roles of dimensional and actual weight, then consider the applicable divisor, rounding, minimum charges and surcharges before drawing a billing conclusion.

The last mile needs a better denominator

Cost per parcel is useful, but it can hide failed attempts and uneven route density. Start with successfully completed deliveries, then examine the work behind them.

Operations Guide

The hidden cost of shipping empty space

Dimensional weight turns package volume into a weight equivalent. Understanding the rule is only the start; consistent measurements and safe packaging make it useful.

Operations Guide

A return is an inventory decision

Moving a parcel back is only one part of reverse logistics. The operational goal is to decide its next destination promptly, safely and with a clear view of recoverable value.

China's parcel scale: what global networks should measure

China's express volumes show the depth of its domestic logistics system. Overseas investment decisions need destination demand, shipment definitions and operating evidence alongside the headline number.

After a customs update: proving the last-mile handoff

A tracking label, physical custody and a published carrier event answer different questions. Understanding the gap helps merchants and logistics teams ask for the evidence that can move an investigation forward.

Parcel lockers and home delivery: from survey findings to local cost evidence

DHL's Poland and UK figures describe surveyed shoppers' main delivery method. They do not measure parcel market share or investment returns. A destination network decision needs a defined service, a complete parcel cohort and comparable evidence on cost, capacity and delivery outcomes.

Questions at the handoff

Does a signed carton handover confirm every product unit?

A carton handover receipt records the handover within its stated scope; it does not establish that every product unit was counted. Record expected and actual product quantities by SKU and unit separately from outer-carton quantities. State the counting method, any unverified scope and discrepancies; leave an unknown quantity identified as unknown.

Does sample approval authorize every bulk-production version?

Sample approval applies to the sample and scope recorded in that approval. It does not by itself authorize a changed material, design file or packing version for bulk production. Identify the versions, order or SKU scope, approving person and effective changeover, and record the decision for exceptions and old stock.

What evidence supports a stock-release decision?

Receipt alone does not authorize stock release or onward dispatch. Identify the checks performed, the responsible decision maker, the affected products and the stated permitted use. Keep unresolved or unverified quantities distinct, with the conditions and open actions linked to the receiving record.

Do parcel measurements establish the final charge?

Measurements support a comparison of dimensional and actual weight; the comparison alone does not establish the final invoice. Confirm the applicable carrier and service rules, including the divisor, measurement and weight rounding, minimum charges and surcharges, and compare retained measurement records with invoice adjustments.
